Day Three

Awesome it was. I went to the National Gallery first. The building looks pretty small, but they fit a lot in there. The Scottish section was really cool. They of course had a huge Rennaisance section which was gody and kind of boring. On my way out I went through the shop just in case there was anything not stupid or ridiculously expensive and there was all kinds of Monet and Van Gogh stuff. I didn't see them. Lame.

Right next to the gallery there's this little pink hut thing that sells coffee and hot dogs or burgers or fish and chips. I got fish and chips and it was really good. I don't think I'll ever enjoy breaded fish in America again 'cause it just doesn't compare.

Calton Hill is brilliant. I love it. It's crazy to me how much 200 feet can change things. It's super breezy up there and on the way it got super sunny and warm. From one side there's the water--the North Sea, from another Arthur's seat, the castle and old town, the new town, the highlands with snow on them. It was really beautiful. You can go even high though. 170 steps to the top of the Nelson Monument.

Back to the Royal Mile for some touristy souvenier things.

Back down to the Grass Market for some Haggis...the pub I went to is the Last Drop and it was pretty cool in there. The servers weren't the greatest or the friendliest, but what are you going to do? I thought that Haggis was always served in a stomach, but apparently not. It was like a pile of stuff in between mashed potatoes and something else with the same consistency but tasting lik sour kraut. I'm glad that it's all ground up though. I don't think I could do it if I knew what everything was as I was eating it. For the most part it's like really dry ground beef, but then you'll get bites that are chewy and that's weird. I don't think I'll ever order it again, but I guess I can say that I've tried it right?

Tomorrow is Loch Ness and the highlands. It's a 12 hour tour and it starts at 7:50. That's damn early.

Then tomorrow night will be whatever I haven't done yet. And the only thing there really is (besides Arthur's Seat--I was going to do that today too but was too enthralled with Calton Hill to leave with enough time) the Underground tour. How bad could it be though? Yeah it's haunted. There was a list on MSN of the most hanted places in the world and I thought Edinburgh would be No. 1, but it's not. It's No. 2. I've been to the number one place--the Tower of London. I didn't know it was so haunted when I went there, and it wasn't bad. So, maybe it won't be bad. But just the fact that it's underground and only lit with candle light freaks me out a bit. And I'm sure they dwell on the freaky shit that's happened before and make it sound like it happens all the time. I don't know....ughhhh I just don't know. I wouldn't die though. And I probably wouldn't have nightmares because I don't have dreams. And it's only an hour. And it's only 8 Euro for students. We shall see. It'll be the last thing I do here, so I'll probably just suck it up and do it. No promises though.

Anyway, I don't know if I said this, but I really love Edinburgh. It might just be my favorite city that I've ever been to. I'm going to be sad to leave it.
