El dia final

This isn´t going to be in Spanish. I wouldn´t have much to say if it were. Today was great though. El Rastro is the most awesome flea market that I´ve been to yet. It´s massive. They have everything--touristy things like scarves and bags and jewelry, but also functional things like adapters and power strips and shoes and furniture. Tons of books. I could have done a lot more damage there, but we had to make it to the museums.

La Reina Sofia has La Guernica by Piccaso. It´s weird when you go to see it. Before it are other things by Piccaso, mostly studies he did to prepare for La Guernica, and then it´s just there. I thought it was bigger for some reason. I think it´s because when you see pictures of it it´s always from a low angle and that makes everything look bigger. It´s hard to explain too. I don´t want to say it´s beautiful because it´s not and it´s not supposed to be. It´s impressive for sure, and "moving" I guess is what I´m looking for. There is a lot of Spanish history that I don´t know anything about, and now I want to know it. The rest of La Reina Sofia is weird modern art stuff. There is Salvador Dali though. He´s cool. I can dig his stuff. It´s colorful and you can actually see what he´s going for and what he´s trying to say. His stuff is politcal and accessible at the same time. Not politcal in the way that no one knows what you´re really going for but you don´t care because it´s all about you anyway. I hate that. There was one room about magnetic fields that I didn´t understand at all. On any level. No matter how I tried to look at it. It was just beyond weird. It closed while we were there, but I wasn´t too heartbroken. Modern art isn´t really my thing.

In between museums we got boccadillos de calamari. It was pretty good.

El Prado is more my style. El Greco, Caravaggio, Tiziano, Piccaso, Joli, Rubens, and a million others I´m never going to remember. My favorite out of all those painters who paint Jesus in every possible way they can, I think is Tiziano. I´d never heard of him before today, but I liked his stuff. It´s a little more colorful and not so depressing. He also did a lot of stuff based on the Greek myths. And I´m biased toward that of course. Caravaggio is also awesome though--in that dark and depressing but really impressive way.

Noms again: tapas! Albondigas, tortilla espanola, croquetas, chorizo, and papas something I can´t remember right now. Also, tito de verano. That´s red wine with lemon fanta in it. It´s so good and refreshing. I´ll probably do that at home now too.

For some nature we took a stroll through the parque ritiro. There was this guy walking around preaching about prostitos and the end of the world and riches won´t save you, but he wasn´t talking to anyone. There was no one around him at all and he was just telling and walking in circles. It was weird. The park was nice though. It´s really big and I´m sure in the day time it´s beautiful. Julian told me there is a rose garden in there somewhere as well.

El final: churros con chocolate! It was really good. Hot chocolate here is just like drinking melted chocolate.

The only thing I didn´t get to do was drink sangria. It´s alright though. I´ll just have to come back right? Have to get to the airport at around 10. My flight is at 11:20 I think. Somewhere around there. It hasn´t taken a whole hour to get through an aiport over here yet so I think I´m good.
